Though outsiders may view Oahu as paradise on earth, residents of the island have been living a nightmare. In December of this past year, jet fuel from WWII-era storage facilities seeped into the local aquifer irreversibly tainting the community’s water supply. To make matters worse, the military’s response has been primarily denial and gaslighting, even following reports of gross human error that led to the disaster. Indigenous activists, like Keeping the Faith contributor Dani Espiritu, and a few military families have teamed up in an attempt to bring the world’s most powerful military-industrial complex to justice. Lord have mercy on the tens of thousands of people this water crisis has endangered, and may God grant victory to those who are tirelessly fighting for accountability.
